Once again, Ally Venable teams up with bassist Bobby Wallace and drummer Elijah Owings for a gritty and fierce third album, Texas Honey. At just 20 years old, Ally Venable, lead guitarist and vocalist, stuns listeners with her powerful voice and electrifying guitar solos. The trio are without a doubt a band that will continue to impress.

The album opens with “Nowhere To Hide”, a track with an addicting guitar melody and dynamic vocal line that instantly showcases Ally’s range. The following track, “Broken”, features a crunchy guitar sound and impressive solo. Despite the lyrics, the song is feisty and bold. It is really a fusion of the more high energy songs on the album with the more mellow ones like “Blind to Bad Love” and “One Sided Misunderstanding”. These songs reveal a more melancholy side to the band with their slower tempos and lower pitched drumlines. Until the very end, Texas Honey is full of surprises with “Love Struck Baby”, a retro-style track that makes you want to dance, and the final song on the album, “Careless Love” which is the perfect sing-along song for your next road trip.

With such variety, Texas Honey is an excellent demonstration of Ally Venable’s versatility and talent. Venable can take her music in so many different directions; it will be really exciting to see how her next release compares to this one. ---Sabrina Tian, bluesrockreview.com

For being only 15, Ally Venable has the makings of a strong force in the world of blues music. Ally is lead vocalist and guitarist of the Kilgore-based Ally Venable Band, and her bandmates are blown away by the talent the Kilgore High School freshman possesses for her age.

"Most of my songs are about how people interact with me…like one song was about how I got bullied in middle school. It’s not like a normal bullying; I remember how at lunch, I would sit by myself in the cafeteria, or in the library or somewhere else, and nobody wanted to sit with me. And whenever I would have my shows, people would always throw parties at their house and be like, “Oh, well you were singing,” or something like that. So I wrote “Woke Up This Morning” about how I was through with them, and after that, they didn’t bother me anymore. Other songs that I have written were about stuff that I saw on TV. I wrote “Wise Man” while I was watching “Gossip Girl,” which is about how a boy cheating on the girl which turned out really cool. I just write about different stuff, whatever inspires me. We try to stay in a blues-rock type of feel with our music, and it’s really cool how the band combine our ideas together to make a song...

I’ve always sung in church, like when I was really little, I would sing in the choir. And I remember going into a music store and asking my grandma for a guitar at a very young age. Looking back, that’s how it started. I’ve always had a love for listening to music. At first I sang a bunch of country music, but later in life I began to listen to more varieties of music. My dad likes to listen to blues and my mom likes to listen to metal and ‘80s music. They both love all that stuff and I liked blues a lot. I don’t know why, but I like it a lot. It called to me so I started listening to Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy and Bonnie Raitt, and all those blues artists. I liked it and felt a sincere draw to that style and I started playing it and listening to them and trying to emulate them. Eventually it worked out." ---Amanda Main, eguidemagazine.com

The 17-year-old Texas female blues artist has a strong voice and a great range. We think she belts out impressively deep and powerful vocals, and her love for the blues totally shines through. Reaching over fifty years into the classic rock/blues past for inspiration and influence, Ally cites Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bonnie Raitt, and Joe Bonamassa among the blues experts she’s used to nurture her musical career. Latching on to the Fender Stratocaster as her instrument of choice will come as no surprise to any fan with the same influencers. Ally’s vocal characteristics make us think Debbie Davies a little bit. The guitar work is not on the Davies level yet, but clearly, she has a bright future as a vocalist and an instrumentalist.

Before the debut of No Glass Shoes, the talented young Houston native won the East Texas Awards Female Guitarist of the Year in 2015. For the last two years, she’s finished in the top ten of the under 20 categories at the Dallas International Guitar Festival. Barry Wallace on lead guitar/keys, 2015 Texas Bassist of the year Zach Terry, and self-taught drummer Elijah Owings makes up the rest of the band. They have been with her through much of her rising career.

Ally covers Bonnie Raitt with “Love Me Like a Man,” which is one of the only two covers on the album, the other being the Junior Wells classic “Messin with the Kid”.

The title track preludes with a bass melody setting the tone for the progression, and lends itself more toward the “rock side” of the blues-rock powerhouse that the Ally Venable Band is touted for.

The harmonica is prominently showcased in “Downhearted Blues,” which is one of our favorites on the new release. This one is sure to get the toes tapping with a euphonious rhythm, and a steady driving beat.

“Trainwreck Blues” picks up with a perky bass melody, leading into a classical blues chord sequence. Ally joins in with a sultry tone, and to us, it’s a pleasing vocal contribution that we think fans of female blues artist will appreciate.

It’s a quality body of work that offers inspiration and motivation for young, aspiring musicians. No Glass Shoes by the Ally Venable Band will not disappoint! ---americanbluesscene.com

A powerhouse from the Lone Star State, the Ally Venable Band has ignited excitement on the Modern Blues Scene. Lead vocalist and guitarist, Ally Venable, starting singing at an early age in church and in recent years picked up the guitar and found her passion.

As a protégé of Lance Lopez, Ally’s songwriting, guitar playing and onstage performance are magnificent. This 18-year-old female packs a punch. She is the 2014 and 2015 East Texas Female Guitarist of the Year. Each of Ally’s band mates are versatile on multiple instruments. Bassist Bobby Wallace is a master at his craft and his years of experience enhance the band. Classically trained musician and drummer, Elijah Owings, brings a steady but dynamic sound to the band. He is the backbone of their Modern Rockin’ Blues sound. As the 2015 , 2016 and 2017 East Texas Music Awards Blues Band of the Year. The Ally Venable Band is a must-see live!!! ---allyvenableband.com
