Henryk 'Papa' Majewski (born 1936) is considered by many to be the most distinguished artist and leaders of Polish Jazz in its traditional, Dixieland style. He studied accordion and clarinet in school, and taught himself to play trumpet.

As a trumpeter and the composer; he co-operated with the New Orleans Stompers (1958-1965). In 1965 along with the pianist Wojciech Kaminski and trombone player Jerzy Kowalski he created Old Timers, the longest existing and probably the most eminent Polish band performing traditional jazz. During they still continuing carrier, Old Timers traveled widely around Europe. Among their other activities, they accompanied world famous soloists such as Albert Nicholas, Sandy Brown, Buck Clayton or Wild Bill Davison. For many years Henryk Majewski has been managing a number of projects at the same time. Without giving up leadership of Old Timers, he also was the co-founder of the Stodola Big Band (1968-73 and the originator of the idea and the founder of the Swing Session "Super band" (as it was called). He was also the founder of countless small formations (duets, trios) created for individual recording sessions or concerts.

Majewski was an indefatigable jazz activist and teacher at annual Jazz Workshops in Chodziez and Pulawy. In 1985, along with Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski, he established concert band SOS (Sitwy Ogromnie Swingujacej) and was frequently performing at major Polish Jazz festivals (Old Jazz Meeting, Jazz Jamboree, Jazz nad Odra) and touring abroad. The lineup of his last band Henryk Majewski Sextet, included his son Robert Majewski (trumpet); the band moved beyond borders of Dixieland and was exploring the essence of modern bebop. Henryk Majewski passed away on June 17, 2005 in Pulawy. --- trumpeters-world.com

Robert Majewski (trumpet) is one of the best Polish jazz trumpet players. During his 30-year long career he performed with the real masters of Polish jazz scene as well as world-renowned jazzmen such as: N.H.O. Pedersen, Clark Terry. Nicholas Payton, Roy Hargrove, Palle Danielsson Gary Bartz, Mino Cinelu, Nils Landgren, Billy Hart, Bobo Stenson or Joey Baron.

He’s a prize winner of numerous national and international competitions such as: Kraków Jazz Juniors 1983 1st team prize (New Presentation band), Leverkusen 1985 1st team prize (New Presentation band), Leverkusen 1992 1st prize for the best soloist (together with Tomasz Gąssowski’s In Spector band).

In 1995 he recorded his first authorial album „Robert Majewski plays Komeda”. The album earned high praise of both the critics and the audience, while its performance at Jazz Open Festival in Stuttgart drew a standing ovation and was recorded on DVD.

In 1997 Robert Majewski Quintet’s album „Coś dla ludzi” [Something for the people] was released. There, he proved himself to be an outstanding instrumentalist and extraordinary composer. His latest album „My One And Only Love”, released in February 2011, was rewarded the Fryderyk Prize 2012 for the Best Jazz Album. Among the artists who took part in that recording were world-renowned jazzmen Bobo Stenson, Palle Danielsson and Joey Baron.

Robert Majewski continued the family tradition with the Old Timers Band, an ensemble formed by his late father, Henryk Majewski. --- jaz.zabrze.pl
