This album has spent longer at number one in the Dutch charts (27 non-consecutive weeks) than any other, and although that’s a bit like saying "Sneezy was the tallest of the Seven Dwarfs" it shouldn’t be taken lightly. Thriller only managed 26 weeks. It’s also the sort of album that could only have been taken seriously somewhere like Holland – big-band jazz and lounge, fronted by a vocalist channelling Jane Russell’s wardrobe. However, Deleted Scenes From the Cutting Room Floor is so thoroughly joyous and cleverly thought out it’s almost impossible not to be seduced by it.

Emerald is a conservatory trained jazz vocalist and it’s her consummate mastery of this specific skill allows her to hold her own against a fiery swing band, while focussing on interpreting the songs not just hitting the notes. These dozen songs ease their way around swing, mambo, rumba and lounge, as big rich vocals weave the kind of witty, intriguing stories sure to draw you into a world of loves lost, found and betrayed. The orchestrations, too, understand the styles to such a degree they can be subverted with subtle modern twists to stop this being a museum piece: the spectacular Absolutely Me is what Cab Calloway would have done if he’d ever had a drum machine; The Other Woman features the funkiest xylophone you’ll ever hear, mixed with the sort of electric guitar that ought to have its own 60s TV theme.

But while the arrangements add an almost cinematic setting to the narratives, this is all about the vocals. Numbers like Just One Dance and You Don’t Love Me are Basie-type big band pushing Emerald to fabulous heights, while Back It Up shows off a croon so smoky it could extinguish most modern torches. New Orleans-style syncopation causes no problems either as bounces through the quirky Dr Wanna Do and even a couple of thinner songs are brought back to life by singing of this quality.

Really, it’s not rocket science – good songs sung well makes a great album. Ultimately it’s a bit like their approach to football, city centre traffic and recreational drugs, one more example of how the Dutch seem to know something we don’t. --- Lloyd Bradley, BBC Review

Holenderska wokalistka Caro Emerald jest zakochana w muzyce i filmach z lat 40-tych i 50-tych. Mimo to, jej muzyka brzmi świeżo i niezwykle nowocześnie.

Po występie Caro z debiutanckim singlem "Back It Up" w lokalnej stacji telewizyjnej w Amsterdamie, widzowie zasypali stację mailami i telefonami z prośbą o powtórkę. Kolejny utwór z płyty - "A Night Like This" ugruntował sukces Caro plasując się na szczycie list sprzedaży. Utwór został wykorzystany w kampanii reklamowej Martini.

"Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room" to filmowy album. Oddaje to szata graficzna wydawnictwa. Piosenki podejmują uniwersalne tematy: miłość, lojalność, pożądanie, niewierność. To historia młodej kobiety żyjącej w latach 50-tych zilustrowana za pomocą muzyki i pełnych wyobraźni tekstów odnoszących się do kina tamtych lat.

Wydany w Holandii album "Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room" zadebiutował na pierwszym miejscu i zdobył status podwójnej platynowej płyty. --- merlin.pl

They love Caro Emerald in Holland. They love her almost as much as they love trance DJs, bridges over canals, and tulips. Emerald’s debut album Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor broke all kinds of records in Emerald’s native country, spending more time at Number 1 on the charts than a little album called Thriller by some bloke named Michael Jackson.

While she may not yet be a household name outside of the Netherlands right now, she’s garnered enough attention to sell out the Royal Albert Hall, become a staple fixture on Radio 2 and helped out Jools Holland on his Hootenanny. So it’s fair to say that The Shocking Miss Emerald pretty much deserves the soubriquet ‘eagerly-awaited’.

The secret to Emerald’s success is easy to identify from the very first notes of her second album. Like her closest comparison Imelda May, Emerald deals comfortably in a retro, nostalgic type of blues-tinged jazzy pop that’s been so successful for her contemporaries. Of course, she could be accused of playing it safe (it’s true that there are no real surprises to be found here) but there’s no denying that she does what she does very well indeed.

A dramatic orchestral flourish introduces the album before One Day pretty much summarises what Miss Emerald is all about – a sassy, brass-laden strut bearing more than a passing resemblance to Kirsty MacColl‘s In These Shoes. Tangled Up seems to be lined up to be Emerald’s big cross-over hit (bearing the name of a certain Guy Chambers on co-writing credits) and could well be a success – despite some lyrical clangers (“treating girls like a yo-yo is a no no of a monumental kind” anyone?) and some rather over-produced strings, it does have a certain kind of charm, and Ms Emerald splashes her personality all over the song whenever she opens her mouth.

At times, The Shocking Miss Emerald seems like a triumph of style over content – at 14 tracks, it’s rather too long (a trait in common with many albums these days, to be fair) and for every endearingly daft romp like Pack Up The Louie, there are moments of fluff like The Maestro which just serves to remind everyone that The Puppini Sisters were once inexplicably successful for a brief moment. Far better are the times when Emerald seems to emotionally connect with a song, such as Black Valentine, a beautifully yearning torch ballad, or the smouldering, classy rendition of Paris.

Stylishly retro and just on the right side of quirky, Caro Emerald fits well into the new breed of post-Amy Winehouse pop star, like Paloma Faith. While her music probably won’t appeal to everyone (and really, what music does?), there is a huge market for this modern spin on a classic sound. Although it may become too whimsical for some, there’s every chance that The Shocking Miss Emerald will see her repeat her staggering success at home on an international basis.

I niezwykle elegancki.

Album “The Shocking Miss Emerald” zapowiada singiel "Tangled Up". Utwór to wpadające w ucho hip-hop tango opowiadające przewrotną historię uwikłania w dwa związki równocześnie! “Tangled Up” został stworzony przez prawdziwy kompozytorski dream team w składzie - Vincent Degiogorgio, David Schreurs oraz znany ze współpracy z Robbiem Williamsem Guy Chambers.

Pochodząca z Holandii artystka zadebiutowała w 2010r. płytą „Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor”, z której pochodził wieki hit „A Night Like This”.
