From 1968 through 1975, Wesley was music director, arranger, trombonist and a primary composer for Brown's band, helping to create a funky sound that's heard in much of today's popular music. It features a hilarious rap from Byrd and Maceo, and like the first track, it's musically a take-off on "Sex Machine". Snippets of "Soul Power 74" can also be heard, done in an ultra-slow manner. Maceo &amp; Fred really drive the whole thing, with more great keyboard work. Only complaint is the electronic drums, but they're pretty subdued. Bootsy handles the guitarwork as well. Sly Stone weighs in with "Tell The World", a low-key ballad that features Godmoma doing the vocals, backing up Bobby Byrd. Stone handles the keyboard work. A good mood piece, it would probably work better on a longer album as a sort of 'rest piece'. It was done at the same time (and with much the same personnel) as Bootsy's Jungle Bass EP, and predated Maceo's hugely successful jazz album Roots Revisited by a few months. Both "Saxmachine" and "Tell The World" ended up on the Funkcronomicon album, making this one less of a necessity, but "Let 'Em Out" can only be found here as a studio tune. --- Rob.Clough@duke.edu</p> <p>download (mp3 @192 kbs):</p> <p><a href="http://ul.to/3lwk1h6k" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">uploaded </a> <a href="https://yadi.sk/d/OCj1lQd_eD9MN" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">yandex </a> <a href="http://www.4shared.com/zip/ebtFnf-dba/McPrkr-FATKM90.html" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">4shared </a> <a href="https://mega.co.nz/#!aYoWlRrK!R_DU8l_L7j1gOX5hZz0QRGXtHa9l0gb_pXsUMieQpb0" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">mega </a> <a href="http://www.solidfiles.com/d/f44d02b419/McPrkr-FATKM90.zip" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">solidfiles</a> <a href="http://zalivalka.ru/194126" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">zalivalka </a> <a href="https://cloud.mail.ru/public/3ee732be410a/Maceo%20Parker%20-%20For%20All%20The%20King's%20Men%20(1990).zip" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">cloudmailru </a> <a href="http://filecloud.io/tc3lpvbz" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">filecloudio</a> <a href="http://ge.tt/9rDMA6j1/v/9" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">gett </a></p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/javascript:history.back();">back</a></p> <p><strong>Maceo Parker - For All The King's Men (1990)</strong></p> <p><img src="http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/ObrMuz/Jazz/MaceoParker/forallkings.jpg" border="0" alt="Image could not be displayed. Made By Maceo reaches into the depths of funk and highlights the space between rules of genre. Maceo takes on an exploratory excursion from prescription and once again relieves what ails ya. Made by Maceo starts with sharp funk, the kind we all love and recognize - he invites us in (come by and see) and then describes the rules (off the hook) - but take notes, because now it's learning time. Between bookends of pure funk, Made By Maceo is a syllabus. the lesson starts with a saxophone expanding across a spectrum of riff and range. I recognize riffs and then suddenly Maceo has found a new way to tantalize me with them. And that's when i start dancing in my living room, the safest environment possible. From there is a unit on Jazz, and bending the ends of Jazz and funk to meet in a new circle. Made By Maceo is an inspiring installation in the career of a legend. The funk isn't gone - Made By Maceo is dripping in it. A portrait of evolution. ..... I can picture Maceo playing "Moonlight in Vermont" and I feel like i'm eavesdropping. It is like learning from a sage. To ignore the importance of this album in the exploration of genre and possibility (and the overall history of funk and jazz) would be like filing a jane's addiction album in folk. Made By Maceo is a review of funk, and a lesson in jazz nuance - interlaced with the fusion of both. listen straight through. Listen before you run an errand. Listen before or after whatever stops you from enjoying your day. Listen straight through if you're just feeling good. It's important because you'll walk around town with the Lady Luck Reprise in your head. and Thank goodness, b/c without notes like that, the world weighs too darn much. Maceo Parker has the cure. That new bag is now 40 years old here, and although Parker's solo projects have never gotten the same attention as his side jobs, it is startling to realize that School's In! is his ninth solo album. Parker knows that the groove is the thing, and working the groove to death is his main goal, so being up to date, current, and innovative doesn't concern him very much, which is why School's In! sounds so wonderfully refreshing, and is arguably his most complete effort since 1992's Life on Planet Groove. Recorded in the studio with his touring band, the album has a loose, bright feel, grounded, of course, by Parker's brand of jazz-tinged soul funk. Highlights include long, muscular sax workouts on "Basic Funk: 101" and the Jackson 5's "ABC," both of which stretch out to over eight minutes in length, and Parker's vocal duet with fellow alto sax player (and fellow Prince alum) Candy Dilfer on Sam Cooke's "What a Wonderful World." Morris Hayes adds some nice counter piano on the soul-jazzy "Arts &amp; Crafts," while the album's instrumental ballad, "Song for My Teacher," hints at what Parker can do in the jazz department should he ever choose to transfer there. The track that will undoubtedly get the most media attention is "What Do You Know About Funk?," which includes a mid-tempo rap from Parker's son, Corey Parker. Unfortunately it is the least interesting thing on the album, maybe because funk has never been much about words and entirely about making the ground shake at the mercy of the almighty groove. What you say isn't as important as what you do in the world of funk, and Maceo Parker has always known what to do. Thank God he's still doing it. ---Steve Leggett, Rovi</p> <p>download (mp3 @320 kbs):</p> <p><a href="http://ul.to/dyo3vfpw" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">uploaded </a> <a href="https://yadi.sk/d/ApYhmo_AeDims" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">yandex </a> <a href="http://www.4shared.com/zip/_sFJ2Dnoba/McPrkr-SI05.html" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">4shared </a> <a href="https://mega.co.nz/#!rY5TnJwI!BneYHFzNezdcjgGtzpCWEa4ff8sBsw8kG4r1HehXiJ8" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">mega </a> <a href="http://www.solidfiles.com/d/6db4423900/McPrkr-SI05.zip" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">solidfiles</a> <a href="http://zalivalka.ru/194237" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">zalivalka </a> <a href="https://cloud.mail.ru/public/37fc21b8de31/Maceo%20Parker%20-%20School's%20In!%20(2005).zip" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">cloudmailru </a> <a href="http://filecloud.io/rekzhmcw" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">filecloudio</a></p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/javascript:history.back();">back</a></p> <p><strong>Maceo Parker - School's In! Roots Revisited is a throwback to the 1960s soul-jazz style and Maceo Parker gives one the impression that, if called upon, he could hold his own on a bebop date. ---Scott Yanow, Rovi</p> <p>download (mp3 @192 kbs):</p> <p><a href="http://ul.to/gzpuflzd" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">uploaded </a> <a href="https://yadi.sk/d/ChJmqX2NeDhkP" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">yandex </a> <a href="http://www.4shared.com/zip/IGISkWpZce/McPrkr-RR90.html" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">4shared </a> <a href="https://mega.co.nz/#!CEoXkAJB!_hMG26I4yjXylag7vWbZBLsCDEGjoLwTfp8VY_twu4k" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">mega </a> <a href="http://www.solidfiles.com/d/37ee36101f/McPrkr-RR90.zip" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">solidfiles</a> <a href="http://zalivalka.ru/194222" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">zalivalka </a> <a href="https://cloud.mail.ru/public/cae7f08dae91/Maceo%20Parker%20%E2%80%93%20Roots%20Revisited%20(1990).zip" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">cloudmailru </a> <a href="http://filecloud.io/zw19jb58" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">filecloudio</a></p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/javascript:history.back();">back</a></p> Maceo Parker – Warsaw 2009 2010-01-07T22:38:19Z 2010-01-07T22:38:19Z http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/en/jazz/515-maceoparker/3047-maceo-parker-warsaw-2009.html bluesever administration@theblues-thatjazz.com <p><strong>Maceo Parker – Warsaw 2009</strong></p> <p><img src="http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/ObrMuz/Jazz/MaceoParker/maceo-parker.jpg" border="0" alt="Image could not be displayed.
