In the mid-eighties a controversial big band was created by Krzysztof Popek. Named "YOUNG POWER" it very quickly become famous in Europe (notably Norway and Germany) gaining even more publicity then the famous Dutch Willem Breuker Kollektief. Since it's first appearance during Warsaw Jazz Jamboree '86 Festival it underwent four reshuffles (editions), from deliberate on-the-stage pnanking to maurity of interesting achievements of sound and form. The band boasted many brilliant improvisers and virtuosi. The leader himself, an excellent flutist and composer, inspired joyous enthusiasm and there were others: Piotr Wojtasik - top modern - mainstream trumpet, Bronislaw Duzy - trombone poll winner, there's one of the best Polish bassists, also composer Marcin Pospieszalski... Almost everyone in the band is worth mentioning. Young Power's peak years 1989-1990 brought valuable recordings and the change of name to "BOWER BROTHERS". This CD presents six stylistically different pieces, ranging form Indian influences ("Man of Tra") through black soul music to Davis-brand of jazz-rock. There are distinguished guests taking part in this recordings: universally know, U.S. based violinist Michal Urbaniakm the best free trumpet in Europe, Tomasz Stanko, the wonderful blind keyboardist Janusz Skowron and two Americans - guitarist Geof Goodman and sopranist Chris Chilson. --- powerbros.com.pl

Polish jazz group formed by Krzysztof Popek and Krzysztof Zawadzki. The band was existing in the second part of the 80's. Their first big success was the participating in 'Jazz nad Odrą' festival in 1986. Confirmation of their abilities and ambitions was a debut from 1987 - "Young Power". After that, monthly magazine Jazz Forum defind them as 'Big Band of the Year' and a leader - Krzysztof Popek - as 'Musician of the Year'. Eclectic and unique style of the group - mixing elements of jazz, rock, even reggae - could reminds of Weather Report's, Jaco Pastorious' or brothers Breckers' achievements sometimes. Young Power – polski zespół jazzowy istniejący w drugiej połowie lat ’80, założony przez Krzysztofa Popka i Krzysztofa Zawadzkiego. Pierwszym wielkim sukcesem zespołu był udział w festiwalu ‘Jazz nad Odrą’ w 1986 roku, po którym krytycy zaczęli mówić o Young Power w kontekście ‘zmiany warty’ na polskiej scenie jazzowej. Potwierdzeniem umiejętności i aspiracji zespołu okazał się debiut płytowy z 1987 roku – ‘Young Power’ – po którym miesięcznik Jazz Forum określił zespół jako big band roku, a jego lidera, K. Popka wybrał muzykiem roku. Eklektyczny i unikalny styl grupy, łączący elementy jazzu, rocka, czy reggae, mógł chwilami przypominać dokonania Weather Report, Jaco Pastoriusa, czy braci Brecker. W roku 1990 zespół nieoczekiwanie zawiesił działalność. Liderem i autorem większości repertuaru Young Power był urodzony 27 stycznia 1957 roku Krzysztof Popek, wybitny flecista, kompozytor i aranżer. Od 1988 roku Popek rokrocznie wybierany jest przez miesięcznik Jazz Forum flecistą roku.
