Zaz is a French pop singer with a Gypsy jazz style who made her chart-topping eponymous album debut in 2010. Born Isabelle Geffroy on May 1, 1980, in Tours, Indre-et-Loire, France, she performed as a singer for much of her life. Her vocals are often compared to those of Edith Piaf. In association with the Play On label, she made her full-length solo debut with the self-titled album Zaz in 2010. Featuring a few songs written and produced by Raphaël, the album was well received by critics and spawned the hit single "Je Veux." Isabelle Geffroy, known by the pseudonym ZAZ, is a singer from Tours, France, who blends the styles nu jazz, soul and acoustic in her music.

In 2001, she started her singing career in the blues band “Fifty Fingers”. She sang in musical groups in Angoulême, especially in a jazz quintet. She became one of the four singers of Izar-Adatz (Shooting Star), a variety band which consisted of sixteen people with whom she toured for two years, especially in the Midi-Pyrenees and the Basque Country. She worked in the studio as a chorister in Toulouse and performed with many singers including Maeso, Art Mengo, Vladimir Max, Jean-Pierre Mader and Serge Guerao.

In May 2010, French magazine Telerama announced: “Rumor has swelled in recent weeks: Zaz is a sacred voice, and she will be the revelation of the summer!”. On 10 May 2010, Zaz released her first album. It contains songs written by herself (“Trop sensitible”) and co-composed (“Les Passants”, “Le Long de la route”, “Prends garde à ta langue”, “J’aime à nouveau”, “Ni Oui Ni Non”). Kerredine Soltani produced the album under Play On label, and wrote and composed the hit single “Je veux”. The pop singer Raphaël Haroche wrote her songs “Éblouie par la nuit”, “Port Coton” and “La Fée”. In 2010, she signed a contract for her tours with Caramba and publisher Sony ATV. She was invited to many TV shows (such as Taratata or Chabada) and was featured in several programs on the radio. ---last.fm

My teenaged French students also like her style. (Actually, some of the girls have said, "I LOVE this!" after listening for about six seconds.) Creative CD cover; lyrics not included in the pamphlet. Nie jest jej rodzinnym miastem, ale kocha je najbardziej na świecie i w nim czuje się najlepiej. Teraz postanowiła oddać mu hołd, dedykując całą płytę. „Paris” to nowa płyta jednej z największych obecnie gwiazd piosenki francuskiej – ZAZ.

Na albumie znajdują się między innymi duety ZAZ z wielkim Charlesem Aznavourem i młodą zdolną Kanadyjską piosenkarką Nikki Yanofsky. W studiu wspomógł artystę także legendarny producent Quincy Jones.

Miastem rodzinnym ZAZ jest Bordeaux, które opuściła mając 26 lat, by spróbować artystycznej kariery w stolicy. Poszczęściło się jej. Najpierw zdobyła angaż jako piosenkarka w kabarecie, a później, uciekając przed rutyną, śpiewała na Montmartre, gdzie przyciągała coraz to więcej i więcej słuchaczy. Nie tylko wspaniałym głosem, lecz również atrakcyjnym repertuarem, w którym było też miejsce na piosenki Elli Fitzgerald, Yvesa Montanda, Edith Piaf, dla której pisał także wspomniany Charles Aznavour. Wielki admirator talentu ZAZ zaśpiewał z nią w duecie w przeróbce jego własnej kompozycji „J'aime Paris au mois de Mai”. Mistrz nie skąpi młodszej koleżance komplementów: „ZAZ może zaśpiewać wszystko i zawsze porusza najczulsze struny w duszy. Dojdzie tak daleko jak tylko sobie zamarzy. Już osiągnęła ogromnie dużo. ZAZ zaprosiła do współpracy wielkiego Quincy’ego Jonesa (m.in. „Thriller” Michaela Jacksona), a ten zaproszenie przyjął. Amerykanin jest pod wielkim wrażeniem głosu Francuzki, czemu niejednokrotnie dał wyraz. „Ona ma prawdziwie bluesowy głos”– mówił Quincy. Piosenki na „Paris” ZAZ nagrała z towarzyszeniem big bandu. „Czuć energię każdego muzyka. Wprost nie da się usiedzieć” – zapewnia piosenkarka. Jako pierwsza płytę promuje przeróbka utworu Maurice'a Chevaliera „Paris sera toujours Paris”. Utworu, który „oddaje wolnego ducha miasta”, jak mówi ZAZ. ZAZ urodziła się na początku lat 80-tych w Tours. Jej prawdziwe nazwisko to Isabelle Geffroy. Jest spontaniczna i ma niezwykłe poczucie humoru. Jest żądna wiedzy, co jest typowe dla samouków. Studiowała na CIAM (Centrum Muzycznej Informacji i Aktywności) w Bordeaux, gdzie również zadebiutowała na scenie.

ZAZ jest prawdziwie renesansową artystką - przyswoiła sobie szeroką gamę stylów: od jazzu, przez blues, piosenkę francuską, muzykę afrykańską, andaluzyjską, brazylijską i latynoską. Wyraża przepełniające ją emocje z niezwykłą świeżością i radością życia. Jako artystka o wyjątkowym głosie (czego nigdy nie podkreśla) ZAZ skupia się głównie na piosence. W 2009 roku ZAZ wygrała finał trzeciej edycji konkursu Tremplin Génération France Bleu/Réservoir, który odbywał się w Paryskiej Olimpii. Wystąpiła tam solo (inni uczestnicy konkursu przybyli z własnymi zespołami) i podbiła zebraną publiczność, która całkowicie poddała się jej urokowi. Zrobiła również wielkie wrażenie na piosenkarzu Raphaëlu, który, zachwycony, postanowił napisać dla niej trzy piosenki.

Zaowocowało to wydanym w 2010 roku albumie "ZAZ" który przyniósł artystce niezwykłą popularność. Album szybko osiągnął w Polsce status podwójnej platynowej płyty, a jej koncerty były wyprzedanie na kilka tygodni przed datą wydarzenia. W maju 2013 roku ZAZ powraca z kolejnym, drugim, studyjnym albumem pt. "Recto Verso". Płytę promuję utwór "On Ira", który jak sama określa, jest pomostem między starym a nowym albumem.
