Emma Marrone, the winner of the 2009 season of the reality television show Amici di Maria De Filippi, made her commercial recording debut with Oltre, a seven-track EP featuring the chart-topping single "Calore." Like Stupida (2009) and Ragazza Occhi Cielo (2010), the respective debut EPs by fellow Amici di Maria De Filippi graduates Alessandra Amoroso and Loredana Errore, Oltre includes several songs written by the tandem of Federica Camba and Daniele Coro. In fact, five of the seven songs on Oltre are credited to Camba and Coro. The highlight of their contributions is the opening track, "Sembra Strano," a guitar-driven number that gets the EP off to a lively start and shows Marrone to be a rocker rather than a balladeer, as so often is the case with these reality television singers. The two songs on Oltre that aren't credited to Cambra and Coro, "Calore" and "Meravigliosa," are likewise highlights. Both are midtempo songs with soaring choruses that showcase Marrone's vocal ability. She's a fine singer who won the ninth season of Amici di Maria De Filippi for good reason. Her performance here on "Calore" alone is worthy of praise. However, her debut EP doesn't quite measure up to that of Errore, her Amici di Maria De Filippi runner-up. While the singers have different styles, with Marrone more inclined toward rock and her rival more inclined toward power ballads, Errore's debut EP has better material, thanks in part to Biagio Antonacci, who contributed three songs. Il nuovo album Oltre di Emma Marrone è in uscita nei negozi di dischi dal 19 Marzo 2010 ed è un Ep con 7 canzoni cantate dalla graffiante voce di Emma. Il titolo del nuovo album di Emma Marrone, il Cd Oltre, trae spunto dal tatuaggio che Emma ha sul collo, una specie di portafortuna. E di fatto, una volta terminato il programma Tv di Amici 9, per Emma Marrone sarà il momento di guardare Oltre, soprattutto dopo le mille polemiche che da sempre accompagnano ogni edizione di Amici. Il nuovo album Oltre di Emma Marrone è prodotto e distribuito dalla casa discografica Universal; quest’ anno infatti i cantanti rimasti in gara al serale di Amici 2010 hanno avuto la grande occasione di essere scelti dalle case discografiche per iniziare un progetto musicale, indipendentemente da chi sarà il vincitore di Amici 9. E questa è senza dubbio un’ occasione per guardare già Oltre per Emma Marrone che ha iniziato il progetto discografico con la Universal.

Il nuovo Cd Oltre di Emma contiene anche la nuova canzone Calore, scritta per Emma Marrone da Roberto Angelini e presentata da Emma al serale di Amici 2010. Nel nuovo album Oltre ci sono anche nuove canzoni inedite che mettono in evidenza la vena rock di Emma Marrone, una delle principali candidate alla vittoria finale di Amici 2010.

Previously one third of Popstars' R&B girl band Lucky Star, 27-year-old Emma Marrone has since reinvented herself as Italy's premier gravelly voiced rock balladeer following her second talent show victory on Amici di Maria De Fillippi. Produced by Dado Parisini and Celso Valli (Laura Pausini, Eros Ramazzotti), the chart-topping follow-up to A Me Piace Cosi suggests there's unlikely to be a second change in direction in the cards. The authentic retro-soul of "Scusa Se Vado Via," the rousing blues of "Maledetto Quel Qiorno," and the revenge-fueled Italian rock of "Cercavo Amore" briefly deviate from her successful formula. But it's the epic power ballads, most of which seem tailor-made for belting out in front of a wind machine and a fountain of pyrotechnics, that define the record, whether it's the impassioned, Eurovision-style bombastics of opener "Tra Passione e Lacrime," the '80s synth-tinged "Un Attimo," or the orchestral dramatics of the title track. The atmospheric chiming and gentle strings that accompany the "independent women" themes of "Non Sono Solo Te" and the emotive "Acqua e Ghiaccio," an appropriately delicate piano-led number that deals with the subject of anorexia, show that she's capable of subtlety. But Marrone always seems more at ease when she's able to really let loose, and while Saro Libera's constant theatrics can be a little exhausting, there's no one in her homeland who does it better at the moment. ---Jon O'Brien, AllMusic Review
