It doesn't matter if you speak Italian or not, just go get it. IT WILL BLOW YOU AWAY. Mina ha una voce che dovrebbe farla diventare una star mondiale: la sua estensione vocale e' migliore e piu' limpida di Celine Dion, Mariah Carey e company. Grazie Adriano & Mina!

The CD is wonderful, Mina is great. In Italy the CD Mina Celentano is sold even with a CD Rom containing a nice videoclip and some games and software; The video is a cartoon where Mina and Celentano are two ducks singing "Che t'aggia di'". In the cartoon is also a scene inspired to the one with Sofia Loren and Marcello Mastroinanni in "Ieri Oggi e Domani". ---amazon.com

Mina, stage name of Anna Maria Mazzini (born in Busto Arsizio, Varese, 1940), made her singing debut for fun one summer at the Bussola club in Forte dei Marmi following a concert given by singer and erstwhile night-club idol, Don Marino Barreto Jr. She launched herself seriously into the then popular "rock-urlato" (screaming rock) genre and immediately enjoyed enormous success. Following her rock and roll period of the late fifties, she progressed to a much more refined genre in the early sixties, performing songs such as Gino Paoli's Il cielo in una stanza. She has subsequently never abandoned this genre, which allowed her to display her enormous singing talents to the full. Her popularity reached levels that have almost never been surpassed. From the mid sixties to the early seventies she was the star attraction of popular television variety shows, and for fifteen years she dominated the Italian charts with songs penned by leading songwriters such as Lucio Battisti and Riccardo Cocciante. Her last concert appearances were in 1978 with a series of thirteen fully-booked concerts broken off due to illness after an extra month had already been scheduled and held at the Bussola, the club where she had made her debut twenty years before. She had given up television appearances four years earlier. For the past two decades Mina has kept away from public life. She dropped out of show-business and moved to Lugano, taking Swiss citizenship in 1989. Nonetheless, she did not disappear entirely from the hearts of Italians or quit the record market, which she continues to dominate with dozens of old and new hits. She still records a CD every year (generally a double album), allowing her to retain her crown as queen of the Italian song genre. At the same time the market continues to turn out collections of her greatest hits (including some real rarities such as Mina in English, Spanish, in concert and on TV). Her voice is as fine as ever, perhaps now even more versatile and expressive than it was in the past. --- italica.rai.it

I’m writing something that I’m still find hard to believe. Italian legend artists Mina and Celentano are respectively 77 and 79 years old. This new collaboration between these ultimate disc sellers is the sequel of Mina Celentano released in 1998, selling an astounding 1,5M copies in Italy. So the senior have invited old and young composers in Le Migliori for amazing result.

Hard to believe these strong voices are so clear and perfectly placed despite being so aged. The disco Amami Amami is so catchy it’s impossible to dislike the tango feel and the old school melody. Accordion solo adds nostalgia, and Mina and Celentano’s vocals are just so engaging and lively this song is a summer hit.

Various composers (from old and new generation) have understood the jazzy, pop and groove influences of Mina and Celentano. Hip-hop leader Mondo Marcio offers a classy jazzy/r’n’b act in Se mi ami davvero while Francesco Gabbani and Fabio Ilacqua provides peppy energetic pop songs in Il bambino col fucile and the superb A un passo da te (Ragione e sentimento). Mina and Celentano show insane groove here, singing with more energy than most of the young singers, Adriano Celentano even rapping in one song.

During slow songs, both singers show versatility and emotions, as È l’amore, a soothing track. But highlight is Ti lascio amore, written by Toto Cutugno and others, as this song is deeply touching. Melody hit the right notes and nostalgia in singers’ voices make a compelling listening.

Another special song, the tricky and funny mix of reggae and chachacha Ma che ci faccio qui, proposes something different. A lively track again, both singers arguing and crooning for the best.

Non Mi Ami and Sono Le Tre are smooth and cool, the former using accordion in a jazzy ambiance, the second one relying on piano and organ. Lyrics are neat and well-written, contributing to great achievement feeling.

The sad Quando la smetterò from Mina is a recital from the diva, while the jewel Come un diamante nascosto nella neve is another fantastic melody.

The avoiding and annoying remix Prisencolinensinainciusol from the Celentano classic is produced by Benny Benassi. As the original, it’s a weird potboiler where Adriano speaks and shouts, while Mina tries to express yourself on a nasty and repetitive electro beat. Only the video is worth watching, including Milano and great dance moves.

The album is The album of 2016 in Italy, being 5 times platinum even though it released at the end of 2016. A well deserved success from two legends, who managed to renew their musical world with each album while keeping the same quality and exigences. Le Migliori is a great compilation of hits and also an superb offering from two accomplished artists. You have to discover this amazing disc ! ---Lonereviewer, lone-reviewer.com
