Masters of blackened death metal, BEHEMOTH, will be unleashing the group s second-ever DVD titled Evnagelia Heretika this fall, 2010.

Vocalist and guitarist Nergal comments, 'We've been through hell and back to make this release happen. I know we only have a few DVD's in our catalogue so far but they are not even close to what you are gonna experience with EVANGELIA HERETIKA! Expect approximately 5 hours of essential Behemoth. Long-time Behemoth artistic collaborator, Graal, has provided us with some of his most disturbing and completed visuals to date.'

Behemoth DVD Content: Two DVD's featuring two full shows (Live in Paris 2008 and Live in Warsaw 2010), every Behemoth music video, Evangelion tour documentary featuring band interviews plus tons of backstage footage. Five hours of material including a bonus Live in Warsaw Audio CD.

After beginning their career as a black metal band in the early '90s, Behemoth has evolved more and more toward death metal with each successive release. The Polish group's latest effort has a few black metal influences, but moves even further towards death metal.

The Apostasy is a crushing album that also has fantastic musicianship. Behemoth also infuses some Middle Eastern influences into a few of the songs, which adds an interesting flavor. Inferno's drumming is really good, and whether he's playing blast beats at lightning speed or keeping a monster groove on the slower songs, his playing is flawless. The songs on this album are really catchy, and the main reason is that are so many different clever riffs packed into each track. Nergal has some interesting solos, but the riffs are what are really memorable.

Speaking of Nergal, his distinctive vocals are a little more raw than on the past couple albums. There's also a guest appearance from Nevermore's Warrel Dane on the song "Inner Sanctum." Between the less produced vocals and the increased speed and intensity on the songs, this is Behemoth's most extreme CD so far, and one of their best. --- Chad Bowar, About.com Guide

Hide the bibles and hopelessly pray for salvation, because Behemoth has returned to wreck havoc on Christianity with their ninth studio album, Evangelion. Interpreting the words of God in the most blasphemous of fashion, the band has stuck to the blackened death metal sound that they have been heading towards in recent years. While Evangelion is not a revolutionary step forward, a few surprises abound, and age has not dampened Behemoth’s blind rage. Behemoth creates a world where Jerusalem is submerged in a sea of blood and cretins toast to the demise of the Holy Father. The music supporting this dark imagery is stripped-down and explosive. “Transmigrating Beyond Realms Ov Amenti” and “Defiling Morality Ov Black God” tear a hole through the listener’s jugular, sounding similar to the band’s previous material, yet doesn’t feel stale or repetitive. The bits of orchestration and progressive elements that Behemoth began to utilize on The Apostasy are expanded upon on several tracks. A sitar closes out “Shemhamforash,” while the horns and acoustic guitar on opener “Daimonos” acts as a stirring introduction to the album. The biggest surprise is with the eight-minute closer “Lucifer,” a slow-paced affair that shows great restraint from the band, while maintaining an uncompromising intensity. After almost two decades, Behemoth has found their niche and stuck largely to their guns. For some, the trademark machine-gun double bass drums, wild lead guitar work, and suffocating growls is more than sufficient enough. Others may find the treading of trodden ground to show a lack of creativity. At this point in their career, sticking to what works isn’t necessary a negative characteristic. Behemoth adds enough creative moments of experimentation on Evangelion to appeal to both die-hards and newer fans looking for their first bile taste of pure evil. --- Dan Marsicano, heavymetal.about.com

You pretty much know what lies in store for you whenever you listen to a new release from extreme metallists Behemoth: growled vocals, galloping guitar riffs, etc. And on their 2008 EP, Ezkaton, the group doesn't stray far from the expected path. But that's not to say that the lads aren't experts at what they do. In fact, as far as extreme metal goes, Behemoth create a most impressive massive sonic wall (quite possibly more so than any other band of the genre), and this is proven once more right off the bat, with the album opener "Chant for Ezkaton," as well as such other tracks as "Jama Pekel." And tacked on the end are a few live tracks, including an impressive, rapid-fire rendition of "From the Pagan Vastlands." Supposedly, Ezkaton was released as a taster of sorts, to hold over fans until Behemoth unleashes their tenth full length album -- and first for Metal Blade Records -- in 2009. However, don't be fooled into thinking this is a stop-gap throwaway release. Ezkaton is one fierce beast. ---Greg Prato, Rovi

I have mixed feelings about Behemoth. I like their earlier Black Metal efforts, but I don't think they are brilliant. I like their recent Death Metal albums, but again, I don't worship them like some people do. I happen to think Zos Kia Kultus is their best album, followed closely by this berserk killing machine. Satanica is really where Behemoth changed their style and became a Death Metal band, eschewing any more of the 'woodsy' feel of their old stuff.

This album slays. If you like Behemoth's later direction, then you cannot miss how much this kills. The riffs, the leads, the over-the-top hyperblast drumming; all excellent. The riffs are much better on this disc than on the overproduced Demigod or The Apostasy, and the songs sound much more brutal when not washed through the Pro-Tools eight billion times. Nergal's vocals are vicious and - gasp - intelligible since they are only double or triple-tracked, rather than octuple-tracked as on more recent releases. In fact the only reason I have to rate this below the face-ripping Zos Kia Kultus is because at 35 minutes it is just too short. This album kicks enough ass that I want it to be at least a 45-minute album, and the short length is the only real strike against it. So if you like Nergal and Co's Death Metal period, then this is one of the good ones. Do not miss. --- metalcrypt.com
