Modern Talking is the duo of Dieter Bohlen and Thomas Anders who came together in 1984. Modern Talking – duet dance'owo-popowy pochodzący z Niemiec, popularny w latach 80. i na przełomie XX i XXI wieku w latach 1998 do 2003. Zespół stworzył wiele przebojów znajdujących się w latach osiemdziesiątych na szczytach list przebojów niekiedy nawet kilka miesięcy. Najpopularniejszymi hitami duetu są: "You're My Heart, You're My Soul", "Cheri Cheri Lady", "Brother Louie", "You Can Win If You Want", "Geronimo's Cadillac" czy "Atlantis Is Calling (S.O.S. for Love)". Zespół działał w latach 1984-87. Po 11 latach - 1998, zdecydowali się powrócić na scenę. Wtedy duet zmienił gatunek granej muzyki z Europopu na Eurodance. Wydali wtedy nowe wersje sławnych przebojów, np. "You're My Heart, You're My Soul '98", czy "Brother Louie '98". Zakończenie działalności Modern Talking nastąpiło 21 czerwca 2003 roku.

Better known for their carefree brand of uplifting Europop, German duo Dieter Bohlen and Thomas Anders, aka Modern Talking, get to showcase their more emotive repertoire with this 2011 collection of ballads, Peace on Earth (Winter in My Heart). Despite the seasonal title and snowflake-themed artwork, its claims of being a festive album don't hold up to much scrutiny, as other than "It's Christmas," which features a children's chorus singalong uncannily similar to John Lennon's "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)," and 1986 single "Give Me Peace on Earth," the only Top 40 chart hit featured, its selection of songs isn't remotely associated with the holiday season. Indeed, in a rather misleading and some would say rather Scrooge-like fashion, this 20-track retrospective is almost exactly the same as 2002's We Still Have Dreams (The Greatest Love Ballads), with the former In the Garden of Venus album track the only new addition. Those looking for a string of '80s synth pop yuletide anthems will therefore be mightily disappointed, but for any casual fans who don't own its virtually identical predecessor, it's a pretty handy guide to their lesser-known less uptempo back catalog, even if the glossy Max Martin-esque pop of "Don't Play with My Heart" is the only track to have aged particularly well. Indeed, with material plucked from nine studio albums, starting with 1985 debut The 1st Album ("One in a Million") right up to 2000's Year of the Dragon ("Can't Let You Go"), it's certainly a representative overview, but if overblown power ballads, Eurovision-friendly love songs, and slightly camp schlager-pop midtempo songs aren't your thing, this slightly cheeky cash-in will be the stuff of Christmas nightmares. --- Jon O'Brien, Rovi

Pierwsza płyta projektu Modern Talking z 1985 roku, to album poprzedzony pionierskim z perspektywy czasu singlem zawierającym utwór "You're My Heart, You're My Soul", którego pierwszy nakład z roku 1984 przeszedł w zasadzie bez echa. Dopiero kolejne jego wydanie i promocja na ówczesnych targach muzycznych Midem spowodowały lawinę fascynacji i zauroczenia zarówno szyldem jak i samą muzyką Modern Talking. Z jednej strony zagrzmiały głosy krytyki, z drugiej zaś druzgocząca je fala narastającej popularności nie tylko wspomnianego premierowego singla, ale też kolejnych propozycji duetu, a w konsekwencji samej formacji.

Płyta zatytułowana The 1st Album stała się początkiem wielkiej popularności muzyki prostej lecz nie prostackiej. Muzyka zawarta na tym krążku stanowi fuzję pracy i talentu nie tylko powszechnie wówczas lansowanych nazwisk Dieter Bohlen & Thomas Anders, ale nade wszystko współproducenta brzmienia Modern Talking, niejakiego Luisa Rodriguesa oraz nad wyraz kreatywnego i utalentowanego chórku trzech muzyków sesyjnych, którymi byli: Rolf Köhler, Michael Scholz oraz Detlef Wiedeke. To właśnie Ci trzej byli odpowiedzialni za ostateczną formę znanych wszystkim legendarnych już chórków śpiewanych falsetem, która obok jedynego w swoim rodzaju głosu wokalisty Thomasa Andersa stała się rozpoznawalną etykietą brzmienia muzyki Modern Talking.

Z pierwszej płyty Modern Talking wykrojono zaledwie dwa single. Pierwszym był sławetny już klasyk "You're My Heart, You're My Soul", natomiast drugim okazał się nie mniej udany, jeśli nawet nie ciekawszy "You Can Win If You Want". Potencjał zawartej na tym albumie muzyki pozwalał spokojnie na wydanie co najmniej dwóch kolejnych singli. Mógł to być z powodzeniem energetyczny "Lucky Guy", tudzież nieco stonowany i z całą pewnością inspirowany pewnymi elementami (linia basu) kompozycji "Billie Jean" utwór "One In A Million". Ten ostatni zasilił zresztą stronę B singla "You Can Win If You Want".

Pierwsza płyta projektu Modern Talking zawiera w sumie 9 piosenek, które są jednocześnie ewidentnym zaprzeczeniem powtarzanej bezmyślnie złośliwej plotki o tym, jakoby duet ten tworzył wszystkie swoje utwory wedle jednego schematu. Oprócz wspomnianych singli i potencjalnych kandydatów na kolejne single, należy również zwrócić uwagę na jedyną w swoim rodzaju balladę „There's Too Much Blue In Missing You”. Utwór absolutnie ponadczasowy, który robił spore wrażenie w roku 1985 i robi je nadal u schyłku roku 2014. W moim odczuciu bezwzględnie najbardziej zaawansowana ballada opatrzona szyldem Modern Talking. Na ciekawostkę zasługuje fakt, że jest to jedyny utwór w dyskografii duetu w którym nie śpiewa Thomas Anders, tylko Dieter Bohlen. Przynajmniej jeśli mówimy o zwrotkach tej kompozycji...

Wokalista Thomas Anders (Właściwie Bernd Weidung), którego barwa głosu przywodziła i wciąż przywodzi na myśl wokalne rzemiosło Annie Lennox; z biegiem lat udowodnił, że nie jest sezonowym wykonawcą kilku hitów, ale artystą z krwi i kości, który brzydzi się playbackiem podczas koncertowych wykonań, racząc słuchaczy owocami swojego autentycznego talentu. Z kolei kontrowersyjna postać Dietera Bohlena, autora muzyki i tekstów wszystkich kompozycji Modern Talking, odegrała tym samym kluczową rolę w powołaniu do życia nowej karty w przepastnej i wciąż nieskończenie pojemnej historii szeroko pojętej muzycznej pop-kultury.

The 1st Album może śmiało uchodzić za najciekawszą jeśli wręcz nie najlepszą z płyt Modern Talking wydanych przez tą formację w latach 80. Krążek będący wyraźną adaptacją formuły brzmieniowej wypracowanej kilka lat wcześniej przez wykonawców z nurtu Italo-Disco, okazał się nośnikiem zupełnie nowej jakości w świecie nowoczesnej wówczas muzyki dyskotekowej i wyznaczył kierunek nie tylko dla kolejnych dokonań samego duetu, ale również dla całej rzeszy wykonawców naśladujących to indywidualne brzmienie. Thomas Anders & Dieter Bohlen finally reunite on essentially a greatest hits album that has turned into a massive European smash.Although a few new tracks have been included, it is the updating of previous hits with harder beats and crisper edges that is catching the ears of old and new fans. "You're My HeartYou're My Soul 98" is the best track here, updated with a conventional but catchy rap that creates the same hi-nrg sound of Real McCoy, etc. "Brother Louie 98" falls in the same vein but you'll need to purchase the maxi-single CDs on both singles to hear the most energized rap-fused versions.The new songs are somewhat less inspiring, sounding a bit like left-over tracks that never made it onto their old albums. But it's still a fun comeback disc and it's great to have them back together. It's somewhat unexpected hit status is also paving the way for a hi-nrg dance music genre resurgence and offering a means for other artists like Fancy and Bad Boys Blue (both of whom have new comeback hits discs out...and if you love Modern Talking, you surely love these guys as well) to return to the spotlight. ---amazon.com

Album, którego specjalnie przedstawiać chyba nie trzeba - wielki powrót Modern Talking na rynek muzyczny nastąpił przy pomocy tej właśnie płyty. Stare hity w nowych wersjach, cztery nowe nagrania i mix z największymi przebojami. Spośród starych utworów najciekawiej zremiksowano chyba "Angie's Heart" (nowa, całkowicie odmienna od tej znanej z lat 80-tych aranżacja). Muszę jednak przyznać, że w większości wypadków stare wersje brzmiały lepiej, nowe zrobione są prawie tak samo - do starej piosenki dodano szybszy i mocniejszy podkład. Wyjątkami są wymieniona już przeze mnie "Angie's Heart" oraz ballady - "Lady Lai" i "Give Me Peace On Earth". Najlepszą premierą jest "Anything Is Possible" - dynamiczny utwór, brakuje w nim jedynie charakterystycznych chórków. Ciekawie ma się też sprawa "We Take The Chance". Utwór bardzo (nawet za bardzo) przypomina "Final Countdown" grupy Europe... Pozostałe dwie premiery to piosenki spokojne, nie wybijające się ponad przeciętność. Warto zwrócić uwagę na medley kończący album - 5 największych hitów zmixowanych ze sobą w bardzo udany sposób! ---moderntalking.pl

Drugi album Modern Talking wydany został nieco ponad pół roku po pierwszym i utrzymał pozycję Modern Talking na muzycznym rynku osiągniętą przez debiutancką płytę. Jedyny promujący go singiel ("Cheri, Cheri Lady") okazał się wielkim przebojem. No właśnie, szkoda że jedyny! "Heaven Will Know" czy "With A Little Love" byłyby jako single skazane na sukces - to typowe dla Modern Talking nagrania z niesamowitym potencjałem. "Wild Wild Water" i "Why Did You Do It Just Tonight" to z kolei dwie przepiękne ballady. Ciekawy jest także utwór tytułowy. W jego refrenie słyszymy niezwykle szeroką gamę chórków, tak charakterystycznych w piosenkach Modern Talking. Wszystkie właściwie piosenki mają coś w sobie, jednak jako całość brzmią w porównaniu z poprzednią płytą nieco monotonnie. Dieter poszedł wytyczoną przez dwa pierwsze single drogą i porzucił eksperymenty. Trochę szkoda, ale i tak nie sposób nie zaliczyć albumu do udanych. ---moderntalking.pl

Ready for Romance is the third studio album by Modern Talking released on 26 May 1986. This album saw releases of two singles Brother Louie and Atlantis is Calling (S.O.S. for Love), first one of which topped the single chart at their home of Germany meanwhile entering the top-5 in many countries including Switzerland, Austria and Sweden, the second single also managed to top the single chart in Germany while entering the top-5 in Switzerland, Austria and Sweden.

The album was released through Hansa Records and distributed by Ariola, BMG in most countries. Ready for Romance peaked at No. 1 in Germany on 16 June 1986 and spent at the top for five consecutive weeks, the album eventually went platinum selling over 500,000 units in Germany alone. Besides Germany, Ready for Romance managed to reach No. 1 in number of countries including Switzerland and Austria meanwhile entering the top-10 in many others including Sweden and Norway. The UK version of Ready for Romance, which contained two additional tracks (total of 12 tracks) You're My Heart, You're My Soul" and Cheri, Cheri Lady managed to reach only No.76 in October 1986.

Trzeci i chyba najlepiej oddający znaczenie terminu "typowe brzmienie Modern Talking" album grupy. Dwie piosenki z płyty zostały wydane na singlach i w komplecie dotarły do 1 miejsca w Niemczech (sam album oczywiście też był numerem 1). Z dziesięciu piosenek na płycie nieco słabszy poziom prezentuje jedynie "Only Love Can Break My Heart", choć i ona ma swoich zagorzałych zwolenników. Reszta to pozycje z najwyższej półki. Genialna melodia w "Brother Louie", cudownie zaaranżowane "Atlantis Is Calling" i "Just We Two", niespotykany w innych piosenkach MT klimat "Angie's Heart"... Z dziesięciu nagrań na płycie dwa są balladami: "Lady Lai" i "Keep Love Alive". Pierwsze dość mroczne (znów brawa za znakomitą aranżację), drugie słodkie, z piękną melodią i znakomitymi chórkami w refrenie (w balladach były one rzadkością).
