This album was recorded from August 2008 to January 2009. The album has everything that is The Quakes from hardcore psychobilly to 80’s style neo-billy and everything in between. The album features some surprise special guests. ---thequakes.com

The Quakes are a three-piece band from Buffalo, New York, USA. The original members were Paul Roman [guitar and vocals], Rob Peltier [bass and vocals] and Dave "The Ace" Hoy [drums]. Unfortunately, Dave was killed in an automobile accident after the band's first trip to England and the drummer's spot has been a 'revolving door' since then. Both Chris Van Cleve and Brian Doran have had more than one opportunity to slap the skins for the Quakes since the loss of The Ace.

The Quakes have played all major psychobilly events in the late eighties and early ninties including The Klubfoot, The Big rumble and many others. In addition to touring all over Europe, The Quakes also did two full lenght tours of Japan. The Quakes have released six studio albums and a live album. The Quakes had a major label record deal with Sony/Japan. ---wreckingpit.com

After 25 years or so of existence, The Quakes still led by the inexhaustible Paul Roman release their 7th studio album and they don’t seem to run out of inspiration. Very few bands can claim that. Roman’s song writing is still sparkling, full of creativity with a superb ability to write complex songs with strong melodies. “Planet Obscure” is in the very same vein as their previous album (the excellent Negative Charge) with some nods to earlier material. Thus “It’s A Curse” sounds a bit like an updated version of “you’re Dead”. Talking about their debut album, there’s a tribute to the band’s first drummer, Dave Hoy, tragically killed in an accident. The lyrics are well crafted too, avoiding the endless clichés of bats, zombies, graveyards and so on, a thing the Quakes never really did. Most of all, Roman doesn’t seem to care about tags, in that he’s similar to Alan Wilson of the Sharks. Rockabilly, Psychobilly, New Wave, Hillbilly, Brazilian pop… if it’s good to his ears, he incorporates it to create that great Quakes sound that is instantly recognizable. This is all that, and more, that you’ll find on Planet Obscure. ---Fred “Virgil” Turgis, the-rockabilly-chronicle.com

The Quakes are a psychobilly band from Buffalo, NY. They were formed in 1986, and were one of the very first American psychobilly bands. They are considered very influential to the current American psychobilly scene, but in the late 80’s, there was no scene to speak of in the United States. The Quakes Moved to London to try to find success.
