Despite their long-haired, pretty-boy image and the occasional hot guitar solo, Autograph was one of the more mainstream hard rock bands associated with the L.A. metal scene. And though it spawned only one hit (the MTV favorite "Turn Up the Radio"), their 1984 debut, Sign in Please, is a solid collection of hook-heavy tunes. Singer Steve Plunkett has a knack for catchy choruses. He leads the band through a number of memorable melodic rockers, among which "Send Her to Me," "Cloud 10," and "Friday" are clear standouts. "In the Night" is a top-notch power ballad, and while puerile frat-house anthems like "Night Teen & Non-Stop" and "My Girlfriend's Boyfriend Isn't Me" come off rather forced, the band excels at classy, mid-paced rockers such as "Thrill of Love" and "All I'm Gonna Take." Anyone expecting ridiculous aggression should stick with Mötley Crüe, but for those who prefer a sleeker hard rock sound in the vein of Night Ranger, this album will certainly satisfy. ---Eduardo Rivadavia, AllMusic Review

Debiutancki album "Sign In Please" został wydany w październiku 1984 roku. Według Steve'a Lyncha sesja nagraniowa trwał zaledwie trzydzieści dni: Byliśmy sezonowymi grajkami, którzy pracowali szybko i zawsze byli dobrze przygotowani. - miał powiedzieć gitarzysta grupy. Wybrany na singiel utwór "Turn Up The Radio!" został nagrany jako ostatni, a szturmem wskoczył na trzydzieste miejsce listy przebojów, zdobył dla zespołu złotą płytę, a następnie pozwolił albumowi pokryć się platyną, a Lynch zgarnął za ten kawałek tytuł "Najlepszego solowego gitarzysty roku" od magazynu "Guitar Player". Utwór "Turn Up The Radio!" znalazł się serialu "Miami Vice" (w odcinku "Little Prince"), a znacznie później również w kilku grach komputerowych: w "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" z 2009 (w radiu V-Rock z gry) oraz w niesłusznie niedocenionym "Alpha Protocol" z 2010 podczas pojedynku z obsesyjnie oszalałym na punkcie lat 80 rosyjskim narkotykowym bossem Brayko. Stacja telewizyjna VH1 umieściła ten kawałek na liście "100 najlepszych rockowych hitów", obecnie znajduje się on na zaszczytnej 93 pozycji.
