La Simphonie du Marais
Hugo Reyne – conductor

This recording has music that has been dormant for about 200 years. Have you ever heard of Francois Francoeur(1698-1787)??? No? Me neither!!!!But I guess that this is OK, because not too many people have. The Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles, takes care of reviving and recontructing old baroque music to its original form, and instructing early music groups on performance. The Centre recontructed most of the music in this recording. The group here, is the Symphonie du Marais, a group of early music performers who specialize in performances of old lost french music in its original form. The music here is divided into three suites(or symphonie). The music is performed with accuracy and knowledge.Hugo Reyne did a wonderful job...

French composer and violinist. His father Joseph (c1662-c1741) was a double bass player in the 24 Violons du Roi and the Opéra. François served the court as compositeur de la chambre (1727) and a member of the 24 Violons (1730), and worked at the Opéra, becoming maître de musique (1739) and inspecteur adjoint (1743). He collaborated with François Rebel in 20 successful stage works, starting with the opera Pyrame et Thisbé (1726); the two were directors of the Opéra, 1757-67. Francoeur's other works include violin sonatas and orchestral pieces.

François's brother Louis (1692-1745) was also a violinist at the Opéra and in the 24 Violins and composed violin sonatas. Louis son Louis-Joseph (1738-1804) was a violinist at the Opéra, maître de musique (1767-79), intermittently director of the orchestra and later an administrator; he wrote stage and other vocal works.
