The composer and musician Paco de Lucía was born in Spain in 1947. Although best known for his mastery of flamenco guitar, he also performs in other genres, including jazz, classical and world music.

"Live In America" is another superb live album with De Lucia's sextet, including his two brothers, Ramon De Algeciras and Pepe De Lucia. The performances were captured during De Lucia's 1993 concert tour of the United States, in venues such as the Berkelee College of Music in Boston, the Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center in New York and the Paramount Theatre in Oakland. "Live In America" begins with "Mi Nino Curro" a De Lucia solo piece, and gradually introduces other musicians from the sextet as the CD progresses, including flute, bass, vocals and percussion on "Alcazar De Sevilla" and saxophone on "Peroche". Particularly nice are the guitars-only pieces in the center of the production, entitled "Tio Sabas" and "Soniquete", respectively.
